Basrah Gas Company is an Iraqi joint venture established between the Iraqi Government, Shell and Mitsubishi to fulfill Iraq’s strategy of energy independence and further investment in its natural gas resources. BGC is one of the largest flare reduction projects in the world and has turned Iraq from a net importer to a net exporter of LPG in record time. Basrah Gas Company (BGC) is a 25-year joint venture involving Iraq’s South Gas, Shell, and Mitsubishi. It aims to capture and use associated gas from Basrah’s oil fields. BGC supports over 80% of Iraq’s LPG demand, generates 3 GW of electricity, reduces flaring, and boosts national energy independence.
